Spruik Technologies was created mostly because of an recurring observation. After nearly two decades in systems integration for manufacturing, focusing on the integration of software products for the MES and data infrastructure space, it became very obvious that our clients weren’t getting value for what they were paying in software license costs and annual support fees.  Somebody needed to provide an alternative. Why not us?

The truth is that it wasn’t as easy as just flipping a switch and offering something new. Even though all manufacturing boils down to raw materials entering a process that produces finished goods, everyone is a bit different. If they weren’t, if they didn’t have that certain uniqueness, then there would be exactly one provider of every product within the geographical region that they were capable of supporting. But that isn’t the case, and so we needed to find a way to deliver a suite of products that allowed for customization while still changing the price dynamic enough to “tip the apple cart” and create a disruptive force in the manufacturing industry.

What we discovered is that there exists, within the open source community, a set of products that delivers nearly everything that the current providers do, at a drastically lower cost. There are things that we need to add to make the solutions world-class but, for the most part, the platforms exist that will allow a dramatic shift away from the cumbersome, expensive products that currently dominate the industry to a more lightweight and modern infrastructure that should allow manufacturing to enter the dev-ops community and allow continuous improvement in the industry without the crippling license fees and support costs.

In the coming days, we’ll be writing a series of blogs that show you what we’re going to be doing and how it will disrupt the industry. We’ve already created solutions that offer far more performance in the areas of data acquisition and aggregation and, using open source technology, we’ve been able to deliver a visualization platform that far outpaces the offerings from OSISoft and Rockwell Automation, using their own data archive.
